The beautiful Watson Lake is located in the city of Prescott, AZ, less than 2 hours away from Phoenix. This artificial lake is a great place to spend a nice day. Activities go from kayaking to fishing and hiking. There are also picnic tables, barbecue grills and playgrounds available.
But what really makes this place different from other lake parks and worth visiting, are the magnificent granite dells. The bright and deep blue color of the water makes the dells look stunning. Watson Lake is where I got the beautiful picture with my Reba dog that features the cover image of this blog.
The dells are a geological formation consisting of boulders of granite that due to erosion got to their actual rounded shape. They are about 1.4 billion years old. The lake was formed in the early 1900’s by Chino Valley Irrigation District and got its name after one of the investors of the company.
It is possible to walk and jump on the rocks to reach different parts and views of the lake and, of course, there are also hiking trails.
